It looks like a David Fincher helmed World War Z sequel is going to go ahead.
It was last summer when rumours first began circulating that Brad Pitt was courting his long time collaborator David Fincher to direct the sequel to his 2013 zombie outbreak flick. Uncertainty arose earlier this year when Paramount removed the film from their release schedule but now Variety are reporting that Fincher is close to signing a deal.
The report says that the project will be one of Paramount's first big announcements once new studio boss Jim Gianopulos begins his tenure. It is expected the film will go into production in early 2018.
Fincher hasn't made a film since 2014's Gone Girl. He worked with Gone Girl writer Gillian Flynn on bringing an American remake of Channel 4's Utopia to HBO but that fell by the wayside. He's most recently been an Executive Producer of Netflix's upcoming series, Mindhunters. He also directed three episodes of the series.
World War Z was a surprise money maker for Paramount and was met with mostly warm reviews from the critics. We'll be very much excited to see the direction that Fincher takes it in though. It will be the first time he's worked on a sequel since Alien 3.
