The Shining is considered by many to be the greatest horror film ever made and we'd agree with that wholeheartedly. Now it looks like a prequel is in the works at Warner Bros. with OneHourPhoto director Mark Romanek at the helm.
Set in the early part of the 20th century, the story will focus on Bob T. Watson, the tycoon who built the Overlook Hotel and how it came to be, well, cursed and stuff. Apparently, this prologue was written by Stephen King but was cut before it was published.
King himself has been a little cool on his support of the prequel, but says that he won't stand in its way. The author famously hated Stanley Kubrick's version of the book and even went so far as to produce a TV miniseries that was more in line with his own version.
Mark Romanek directed psychological thriller OneHourPhoto with Robin Williams and ultra-weepy drama Never Let Me Go with Carey Mulligan, Keira Knightley and Andrew Garfield.
Romanek was due to direct 2010's The Wolf Man with Benicio Del Toro, but dropped out at the last minute.
Stephen King wrote a sequel to The Shining, titled Dr. Sleep, which Warner Bros. is also attempting to get onto the big screen.
