Irish director John Moore has spoken about the MPAA in America and their insistence on giving his latest slugfest, Max Payne, an R rating; despite what he claims is firmly a PG-13 film. The tempestuous (as anyone who watched the making of Flight of the Phoenix will know) helmer spewed: "It's a little slower and a little more atmospheric. There are some rougher edges on it, but it's not going to be a bloodfest. I want this to be the Max Payne that I set out to shoot. It's not that I wanted to release one version in the theatres and make a cheap buck by following up with a blood-drenched DVD version. The movie you see in the theatres will be an intense experience and the movie you see on DVD will be as intense an experience with some extra sensibilities for people who really adore the game." It's not the first time America's governing body has been criticised by a filmmaker, as Kevin Smith went to town on them when they gave his latest comedy Zack and Miri Make a Porno an NC-17, and subsequently won an appeal to have it overturned to an R.
