The Gucci family have made no secret of being unhappy with new biographical film 'House of Gucci'. Now the director of the film, Ridley Scott, has responded.

Back in April, before 'House of Gucci' was released, Patrizia Gucci, the great-grandchild of Guccio Gucci, released a statement to the Associated Press.

She spoke of what the Gucci family thought of the film on their behalf.

It reads: "They are stealing the identity of a family to make a profit, to increase the income of the Hollywood system…

"Our family has an identity, privacy. We can talk about everything. but there is a borderline that cannot be crossed."

The Associated Press reported: "Patrizia Gucci said her family will decide what further action they might take after seeing the film.

"Their concerns stem from the casting of top actors to play family members whose stories intersect little with Maurizio Gucci’s murder, the lack of current contact with Scott’s production company and inaccuracies they see in the book on which the film is based."

Patrizia Gucci also said in the statement: "My grandfather was a very handsome man, like all the Guccis, and very tall, blue eyes and very elegant.

"He is being played by Al Pacino, who is not very tall already, and this photo shows him as fat, short, with sideburns, really ugly.

"Shameful, because he doesn’t resemble him at all."

Ridley Scott was asked by Total Film about Patrizia Gucci's statement.

The 'House of Gucci' director said he tried to be "as respectful as possible by being as factual as possible" to what happened.

He was not at all impressed by Patrizia's scathing words about Al Pacino.

Scott says: "The people that were writing from the family to us at the onset were alarmingly insulting, saying that Al Pacino did not represent physically Aldo Gucci in any shape or form.

"And yet, frankly, how could they be better represented than by Al Pacino? Excuse me! You probably have the best actors in the world, you should be so f**king lucky."

Scott also spoke of Jared Leto's physical transformation for 'House of Gucci'.

He says: "Jared Leto, there's not a lot of information about [his character] Paolo, but there are pictures of Paolo and that's exactly what Paolo looks like.

"We found the pictures and Jared did what he did and dressed the way Paolo dressed. There's not a lot of Paolo on camera talking. And so that had to be, to a certain extent, imagined, but clearly Paolo was a very colorful and flamboyant man."

Scott adds: "The flamboyance of Paolo was quite nicely captured. And how could that be offensive? We paid attention to not getting too overt if we can avoid it."

'House of Gucci' is now in cinemas.
