Yeah, that ‘Dora the Explorer’ live-action movie you heard about late last year is still going ahead (though Michael Bay no longer seems to be a credited producer on it).
Isabela Moner (whose recent credits include ‘Transformers: The Last Knight’ and ‘Sicario 2: Soldado’) had been cast in the title role and just recently the parents, or ‘padres’, of her character were also cast.
Eva Longoria of ‘Desperate Housewives’ fame is playing Dora's mother while Michael Pena (who recently starred in ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ and will next be seen in season 4 of Netflix’s ‘Narcos: Mexico’) will play the father.
The movie centres on Dora as a teenager who after spending most of her life exploring the jungle with her parents, moves to the city to face the tribulations of high school ('Mean Girls' much?). She soon finds herself leading Boots (her best friend, a monkey) and a ragtag group of teens on “a ‘Goonies’-esque adventure to save her parents and solve the impossible mystery behind a lost Inca civilization.”
The animated TV series ran on Nickelodeon for eight seasons from 2000-2014.
Production for the Paramount film, which has been in development since 2015, recently began in Queensland, Australia. James Bobin, who previously helmed ‘Muppets Most Wanted’ and ‘Alice Through the Looking Glass’, is directing.
Paramount Players, Nickelodeon and Walden Media have set the movie for an August 2nd 2019 release.
