John Carpenter, the man behind seminal genre classics like Halloween and The Thing, has signed on for his first major theatrical film for years. Carpenter will direct the supernatural thriller The Ward, with Amber Heard (from Pineapple Express) taking the lead role of a woman, plagued by ghosts when she becomes trapped in a mental hospital. As if being stuck in a mental hospital wasn't bad enough in itself... Carpenter commented that the script by Shawn and Michael Rasmussen was: "the kind of script that I've been looking for: a complex, visceral story, full of suspense and scares." He's still attached to the Nicolas Cage starrer Riot, while he's also reportedly looking at remaking his cult classic They Live.
