Paul Greengrass has ultimately failed to commit to directing a new CGI heavy version of The Fantastic Voyage. Leaving 20th Century Fox and producer James Cameron without a director.

According to Aintitcool.com via Deadline Hollywood, the trades were overzealous in announcing The Green Zone and Bourne Ultimatum helmer's commitment to the project, and he simply backed away from it before signing on.

Some had questioned Greengrass' ability to deliver something on that scale that was a lot more effects-driven that his more visceral previous efforts. Still, he's a top drawer director and was certainly an intriguing choice. He is apparently the only helmer to see the script, so Cameron and Fox will now go hunting elsewhere.
