Prime Video have dropped the first trailer for upcoming psychological horror 'Goodnight Mommy', based on the 2014 Austrian movie of the same name.

The remake follows a pair of twin brothers (Cameron and Nicholas Crovetti) as they arrive at their mother’s (Naomi Watts) country home. They discover her face covered in bandages - the result, she explains, of recent cosmetic surgery. But they immediately sense that something doesn’t add up. She sets strange new house rules, smokes in her bathroom, and secretly rips up a drawing they gave her. All things their loving mother would never do.

As her behaviour grows increasingly bizarre and erratic, a horrifying thought takes root in the boys’ minds: The sinking suspicion that the woman beneath the gauze, who’s making their food and sleeping in the next room, isn’t their mother at all.

The 2014 film was critically acclaimed upon its release. It contains many twists and turns and leans into its mystery. The trailer for the upcoming Prime Video remake shows a similar plotline but could potentially lead down other avenues.

Watt's spoke about her role to People this week, saying, "Every role requires me to explore some part of myself; maybe something deep within me that's been left untapped might come through. There's been a common thread perforated throughout my career. But I always try to find roles that teach me something new. This was no different. It was quite confronting to face that level of darkness. It was definitely one of the most challenging characters I've played."

She added that it was "almost impossible to identify with some of her choices."

Cameron Crovetti, one half of the acting twins, will be recognisable to fans as Ryan from 'The Boys'. He has also appeared in 'The Gray Man' and 'Big Little Lies'.
