Considering how successful it has been on stage, it's safe to say that the big screen adaptation of 'Wicked' is extremely highly anticipated.

We've already seen some behind-the-scenes glimpses of its stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, but now director Jon M Chu has shared the first images of their characters Glinda and Elphaba in costume.

He captioned the post: "You weren’t told the whole story. What happens when you veer off the Yellow Brick Road? FIRST LOOK of the #WickedMovie … currently in production in Oz."

The film will be split into two parts, the first of which is set for release next year. Shooting on both films is currently underway in London.

'Wicked' is a prequel to 'The Wizard of Oz', and tells the story of both Elphaba and Glinda, who were childhood friends before becoming The Wicked Witch of the West and The Good Witch, respectively.

Michelle Yeoh will also star as Madame Morrible, Jeff Goldblum as The Wizard, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero and Ethan Slater as Boq.

'Wicked: Part One' will be released in cinemas in November 2024, with 'Part Two' set for release in December 2025.
