Gerard Butler is continuing to move away from atrocious romantic comedies, and may next star as former British army officer Simon Mann in a Ridley Scott directed biopic, according to Deadline, (via Darkhorizons).
Seven years ago Mann reportedly assembled a "group of mercenaries to attempt a coup against the president of Equatorial Guinea, but was arrested picking up arms in Zimbabwe. After five years in prison there, Mann was sentenced to 34 years in Equatorial Guinea but received a presidential pardon in 2009. Mann's backers, including former British PM Margaret Thatcher's son Mark, disavowed involvement with him after the coup failed." Seems harsh.
It sounds right up Scott's street, but he's a very busy man with a lot of projects on the go and a studio is yet to green light the production. Good to see Butler still challenging himself, though.
