Just before Mad Max: Fury Road was released, its director George Miller briefly mentioned a black-and-white version of Mad Max: Fury Road.

Nothing really came of it, but it became something of a legend amongst hardcore fans of Mad Max. Now, however, it looks as if it's finally becoming a reality.

As Miller described it in an interview shortly before Fury Road was released, the black-and-white version originated on Road Warrior. "The best version of Road Warrior was what we called a ‘slash dupe’, a cheap, black-and-white version of the movie for the composer. Something about it seemed more authentic and elemental. So I asked Eric Whipp, the (Fury Road) colorist, ‘Can I see some scenes in black and white with quite a bit of contrast?’ They looked great. So I said to the guys at Warner, ‘Can we put a black-and-white version on the DVD?’ There wasn’t enough room."

Thankfully, Blu-Ray discs are able to hold a significantly larger amount of information and the Black and Chrome edition - as it's being dubbed - will finally be available.

In Germany. Dang.

The High Octane Collection will feature over four hours of special material and will include the specialised version of Fury Road and is only available on Amazon Germany. It's not yet known if this version will see a release outside of Germany or, indeed, if it'll get a theatrical release.

There's been a number of petitions to Warner Bros. to have them release Miller's black-and-white version, so it's good to see that it's finally a reality - even if it is only available in Germany.

In the meantime, here's a fan trailer showing what it could look like.
