GamesCom, the world's largest video game trade show, opens to the public today. Last year, a quarter of a million attendees turned up in Cologne for the convention - or, to put it in context, twice as many attendees as the San Diego ComicCon - and GamesCom is only in its third year of running. Germans take their gaming seriously.

This year GamesCom will be hosting more than 500 exhibitors, including EA, Sony, Blizzard, Ubisoft, and developers from 33 countries. Some of the products being shown off are already on the market, like World of Warcraft: Cataclysm and DC Universe Online. But for attendees yearning for more teasers and stills from upcoming releases like Batman: Arkham City, Mass Effect 3, Guild Wars 2, Halo: Anniversary and the rest of a list longer than anyone's arm, look no further.

Entertainment.ie previewed trailers for Assassin's Creed: Revelations and The Adventures of Tintin yesterday, but here's some trailers, fresh from GamesCom.

Star Wars: The Old Republic could be the first real contender to Blizzard's World of Warcraft crown. Bioware are a studio with a reputation for quality. Plus, eveyone loves swinging lightsabres and flying spaceships.

Marvel always have something to offer,X-Men Destiny, a "build your own X-Man" RPG, while Spider-man: Edge of Time seems an old fashioned webslinging adventure and nod to the hard-core Marvel continuity fans. For the upcoming and gleefully anticipated Batman: Arkham City, there's this new Mr. Freeze Trailer, following close on from the Riddler Trailer.

GoldenEye 007 Reloaded and Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary are classics getting a facelift. Uncharted 3, Silent Hill Downpour and Modern Warfare 3 all look like solid entries in their respective series from the quick glimse of gameplay between cinematics. For the little ones, or grown ups looking for something a little less moody, there's LittleBigPlanet Vita andLego Harry Potter: Years 5-7.

Epic Fantasy enthusiasts can rejoice, there's The Elder Scrolls V : Skyrim, DOTA 2 (the sequel to the Defense of the Ancients scenario for Warcraft III), and Guild Wars 2.

Finally, Saints Row The Third has Gangster Mexican Wrestler madness. Sold.
