The on-going rights dispute between Fox and Warner Bros. over the impending release of the fantastic looking Watchmen, may yet reach a settlement before the court date later this week. The dispute between the two major studios was about to turn messy, with Fox claiming they still owned distribution rights to the material due to a clause in the contract from the early 90's. This may have led to the films proposed release date of March 6th being shelved, thus becoming a right pain in the hoop for Warner Bros. and current distributor Paramount. But it looks like a settlement is now on the cards with Variety reporting that attorneys for both sides have agreed to delay a federal court hearing until Monday so they can continue talks. The move by Fox had angered fans of the graphic novel who had been waiting on a cinematic incarnation of the material since the late 80's. Their argument was that Fox had owned the rights for long enough and decided not to make a movie, so why were they interested now? The film itself looks pretty spectacular, and 300 director Zach Synder has pretty much nailed the look of the source material. You can have a gander at my footage report from London here.
