The latest teaser for ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ has us more giddy than ever before. Previously we got the first look teaser in the spring and an official trailer last month. The latest teases a song in the film called ‘Can You Imagine That?’ which will be sung by Emily Blunt in the title role.
The new trailer, which is titled ‘special look’, also includes the appearance of some dolphins. We also have our first look at Meryl Streep in character as Mary Poppins’ eccentric cousin, Topsy.
Aside from Blunt and Streep, who starred in Disney’s musical feature ‘Into the Woods’ together, the highly anticipated sequel to the 1964 Julie Andrews-starrer includes an all-star cast. Ben Whishaw plays Michael Banks while Emily Mortimer plays his sister Jane; Julie Walters plays the Banks’ housekeeper Ellen; and Colin Firth stars as Fidelity Fiduciary Bank’s William Weatherall Wilkins.
Lin-Manuel Miranda plays the optimistic streetlighter and good friend of Mary’s, Jack, while Angela Lansbury appears as the Balloon Lady, a treasured character from the PL Travers books. Star of the original Dick Van Dyke is Mr. Dawes, Jr., the retired chairman of the bank now run by Firth’s character.
According to the plot synopsis, “Mary Poppins is back to help the next generation of the Banks family find the joy and wonder missing in their lives following a personal loss.”
Directed by Rob Marshall, the film features all new original songs by Broadway stalwarts Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, and a musical score by Shaiman.
