The world went wild (for all the right and wrong reasons) when Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson were cast as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, so we can't help but wonder how Fifty Shades of Grey fans will react to the film's latest casting.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, Zero Dark Thirty's Jennifer Ehle (whom you'll know best as Elizabeth Bennett from THAT BBC Pride and Prejudice adaptation with Colin Firth) has just been cast as Carla May Wilks, Anastasia's mammy. She's a bit of a flighty and forgetful flirt, is Carla, who is always rather busy trying to turn her hobbies into business ventures. Herself and Anastasia aren't exactly bosom buddies, and she's generally too busy with whichever husband she has to bother spending a lot of time taking an interest in her daughter's life.

We can't help but wonder why the team didn't go with Johnson's real-life mammy Melanie Griffith for this one though. Sure wasn't she only delighted to hear her daughter would be playing the stubborn but kind-hearted student who has her life turned upside down (and inside out, and around, and... well, we could go on) by Christian Grey?

Directed by Nowhere Boy's Sam Taylor-Johnson, Fifty Shades of Grey is due in cinemas in August 2014.
