Who the hell knew that Justin Lin was planning on remaking Highlander? Granted, the Fast Five director has been linked with pretty much every action project over the past six months, so it was easy enough to slip by. Anyhow, the project he WAS doing, he isn't anymore.
According to The Heat Vision Blog, the helmer has had to pull out of directing a remake of the Christopher Lambert starring series, because he doesn’t have time with Fast Six being pushed forward aggressively by Universal. The last film made huge money for the studio, with a worldwide gross so far of $604 million. Lin has also apparently held "informal" discussions with Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Cameron about where a new Terminator film would go.
I met Lin for the 'Fast' junket in Rio and he's a gentleman and very enthusiastic about what he does. He's made an awful film (Annapolis) a very average one (Fast and Furious) and a thoroughly enjoyable one (Fast Five). Either he's growing as a filmmaker and finally got the budget to show what he could do, or it was a fluke - here's hoping for the former.
