Released 25 years ago this month, 'Fargo' was the sixth movie made by the Coen Brothers and the first set in their home state of Minnesota.
Although the movie claimed in its opening credits to be based on a true story, the reality was the Coen Brothers made the story up from start to finish. As they later explained, the only true thing about 'Fargo' was that it was a story.
The movie launched the careers of Frances McDormand and William H. Macy, and became critically acclaimed and was nominated for several awards, including the Oscar for Best Picture, the Palme d'Or, and many others.
