As we've opined previously, Colm Meaney's portrayal of Chief O'Brien in 'Star Trek: The Next Generation' and 'Star Trek: Deep Space Nine' is the most positive representation of Irishness in popular culture.

It's not just the fact that it's hundreds of years into the future and the Dublin accent is still thick and strong, it's that Colm Meaney uses it so convincingly throughout that it sounds exactly correct. Of course there's a Dub working on a space station orbiting Bajor. What of it?

However, when you place Colm Meaney into the environs of a Roddy Doyle story, it's as real and as authentic as anything else. And when he deploys 'Jaysus!' into a scene, it's all the more authentic. As much as Owen Wilson owns the word 'wow', our Colm Meaney owns the word 'Jaysus'.

Nobody does it better, and here's a minute-long compilation that just puts it all into perspective.
