Sony Pictures has issued an official press release confirming that their Superbad and Zombieland star Emma Stone has joined the cast of the Spider-Man reboot, ending weeks of speculation.
The funny and talented actress, who just starred in the well reviewed, and audience friendly high school comedy, Easy A, is obviously well thought of in Sony and had been initially linked with the part of Mary Jane Watson. She will instead play Peter Parker's high school sweetheart, Gwen Stacey, with Watson not turning up until the sequel.
Andrew Garfield is playing Spider-Man and Peter Parker, while Marc Webb is directing the film which is due for a summer 2012 release.
