Eddie Murphy is to make his first movie in years and it sounds like a bit of a belter.

The legendary comedian is reportedly close to signing a deal with Netflix for a mockumentary "Soul Soul Soul: The Murray Murray Story."

The film is about a soul singer from the early 1960s, who puts his old band back together when a hip-hop artist samples their track without permission, with an eye to taking them down.

The film will be directed by Brett Ratner, who helmed Murphy in the fun Tower Heist.

Netflix are investing heavily in original film, with deals with Brad Pitt and Adam Sandler costing them millions, but obviously helping expand their subscriber base. It seems to be the way forward for movie stars not keen on the pressure of "opening" movies.

Murphy hasn't starred in a film since A Thousand Words in 2012 - which he actually made a few years previously. He was due to host the Oscars a couple of years ago with Ratner directing, but pulled out when the director had a much-publicised controversy. It was disappointing for a lot of people, as it would've been seen as a step back into stand-up comedy for one of the best of all time.
