Seeing as how 'Downton Abbey: The Movie' was a commercial success, not the least of it being because the show was hugely popular, a sequel to 'Downton Abbey: The Movie' was all but virtually certain.
In an interview on ITV's 'This Morning' yesterday, actor Jim Carter - who played Carson, the butler, in the series - confirmed that a second movie is in the works, and that scripts are currently being worked on.
Carter described the script as "very funny", and added that "(it's) got all the same characters in, all the regular characters, and I think the will is – COVID willing – we’ll film it next year." Carter's appearance on 'This Morning' coincided with the 10th anniversary of the show's first airing.
The movie, released around this time last year, was a huge success. Against a production budget of around $12-13 million, 'Downton Abbey: The Movie' managed to score a box office of $194.3 million, and was the seventh highest-grossing movies at the Irish box office in 2019.
