Among the contenders is the Irish short 'Late Afternoon.' Another film to get the nod is the Disney Pixar short 'Bao.'

The seven-minute long animation follows an aging Chinese mom suffering from empty nest syndrome. She gets another chance at motherhood when one of her dumplings springs to life.

The Dumpling starts growing up fast, and Mom comes to the bittersweet revelation that nothing stays cute and small forever.

The film examines the Chinese immigrant community living in Toronto, Canada.

Director Domee Shi previously contributed to the Pixar features 'Inside Out', 'The Good Dinosaur', 'Incredibles 2', and 'Toy Story 4'. She is now working on her first feature-length movie.

'Bao' played before 'Incredibles 2' in theatres earlier this year. To celebrate it being in contention for the Oscars, it is now available to view in full on Youtube. The video is available on the platform for a week.

The short was also tweeted out in full last month:
