He was a pretty big star beforehand, but the double-whammy box-office and critical success of Shutter Island and Inception has made Leonardo DiCaprio officially the biggest movie star on the planet. To celebrate, he's playing a serial killer.
According to Deadline.com (seriously they get the scoop on EVERYTHING), DiCaprio has purchased the rights to, The Devil in the White City. The book is based on the exploits of a man who many folk see as America's first serial killer, a chap called Dr HH Holmes, who killed a lot of women during the World Fair in Chicago 1893. Tom Cruise previously owned the material, but apparently DiCaprio is extremely passionate about bringing the story to the big screen and waited for the rights to lapse for years before pouncing.
There is no director attached, and it's just going out to writers to tackle, but DiCaprio and his producing partner, Jennifer Killoran will then take the project to studios for funding - possibly with a helmer then.
