Daniel Day Lewis has taken over from fellow Paddy (if the Brits can claim Brosnan and Fassbender...) Liam Neeson in Steven Spielberg's long-delayed Abraham Lincoln biopic.

According to Deadline.com the two time Oscar winner who play the man who many Americans believe to be their greatest ever president, after Neeson left the project for other commitments. In fairness to the Ulster man, he had hung around in there for a pretty long time waiting on something to happen. This won't be a particularly happy tale; Lincoln was clipped while enjoying a relaxing night at the theatre by Southern sympathiser John Wilkes Booth.

The film will be Spielberg's next after he finishes work on Tin Tin. Expect a release some time in 2012.
