John Cusack has signed on to topline the Roland Emmerich blockbuster 2012. Flick is of the apocalyptic variety, as the story kicks off with a global disaster that brings an end to the world as we know it. The film chronicles the heroic struggle of the survivors, led by Cusack and the brilliant Chiwetel Ejiofor (Inside Man). Emmerich may have made a slight mess of the droll 10,000 BC; but the German director still knows scope better than most. The inclusion of Cusack and Ejiofor at least indicates that there is some decent character stuff going on here. Plus, John Cusack can pretty much make anything watchable; and he hasn’t done an out-an-out crowd pleaser since Con Air. Who doesn’t like Con Air!? That film works on infinite number of levels. Stuff goes bang, Colm Meaney says "arse", five stars from me.
