It’s been nearly thirty years since Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall starrer Coming to America hit the big screen and it looks like a sequel is making headway.

According to Deadline, the film is moving forward with director Jonathan Levine, whose credits include 50/50, Warm Bodies, The Night Before and Snatched, attached.

Coming to America 2 also now has a writer in none other than the creator of hit series Black-ish, Kenya Barris. Barris was also one of the writers on Girls Trip, which has proven to be one of the biggest surprise indie hits in the box office this year.

Back in April, it was reported that Barry Blaustein and David Sheffield, who penned the original 1988 movie, would be writing the sequel, but it would seem that Barris is giving their work a rewrite.

As for the involvement of Murphy himself, the actor “is expected to reprise his role for the Paramount sequel, though nothing’s been finalized.” But I mean, c’mon, a Coming to America sequel can’t work without Eddie Murphy (and, if possible, Arsenio Hall and James Earl Jones too), right?
