Chris Evans is the man who will don the red and white stripes in Joe Johnston's superhero film, Captain America.
After various reports linking every actor and their second cousin with the role, Evans was offered the part after reportedly refusing to screentest, as all the other guys in contention had. Marvel and Johnston then apparently offered the Fantastic Four actor the role regardless, after speculation reached fever point during the week. Evans will sign a deal that see's him appear in several Marvel films, including possible Captain America sequels and Avenger movies, opposite other Marvel stars, Robert Downey Jr. and Edward Norton. Fair play to the folks at Hitfix.com; they've consistently given the best coverage of this story, and were the first (that I saw) to break Evans as the star.
Evans has a romantic comedy with Anna Faris due to start shooting around the same time as 'Captain', while he has action comedies Scott Pilgrim Vs The World and The Losers due out this summer. Cracking casting, obvious casting, or both?
