The sequel to ‘The Shining’ is well and truly happening having now confirmed its male and female leads as well as its director.
Based on Stephen King’s 2013 novel, ‘Doctor Sleep’ will be directed by Mike Flanagan, who previously helmed Netflix’s ‘Gerald’s Game’ (also based on a King novel).
It was previously confirmed that Ewan McGregor is set to star in the film as a grown-up Danny Torrance.
The plot follows Torrance’s struggle with the memory of what happened to him at the Overlook Hotel as a child. Over the years, he has developed a drinking problem that numbs his pain and his 'shining' gift but when he gets sober, and uses his gift to help people dying at a hospice, he makes a connection with a young girl with similar powers.
Rebecca Ferguson is now in negotiations to co-star with McGregor in the Warner Bros. movie, Variety reports, though the role she is playing has not been confirmed.
Ferguson would be best-known for her role in ‘Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation’ and she will also star in its sequel, ‘Fallout’. Last year, she starred in ‘The Greatest Showman’ and opposite Michael Fassbender in ‘The Snowman’ (that was not a good movie…).
