Deadline are this morning reporting of Orlando Bloom's return to The Lord of the Rings, by saying Peter Jackson wants him to appear in The Hobbit.

Although Bloom's character Legolas doesn't appear in the book, Jackson is reportedly bringing him back anyway to bridge the with the previous trilogy. Cate Blanchett has been confirmed to be returning as Galadriel, while talks are ongoing with Andy Serkis and Sir Ian McKellen to reprise their roles also. You'd think it would be easy to bring them back, but Deadline describe the negotiations as "arduous." Not something Rings fans want to hear...

Massive credit to Peter Jackson for pushing on with the film. There's obviously a lot going on here behind the scenes, so if The Hobbit is a fraction as good as any of the others, then it'll be an achievement in itself.
