Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck tied the knot recently in Georgia in what we can assume was a rather lavish ceremony Lopez described as "down-home, rustic country-chic". As Hollywood A-listers, they did a few unconventional things for their big day; Jen had three wedding gowns and Affleck actually quoted his own movie in a speech.
It was the wedding that had been about 20 years in the making since their original engagement back in 2002. Perhaps that explains all the pomp surrounding it; they had a wedding ceremony back in July and a second just two weeks ago.
Jennifer Lopez has been drip-feeding the public dribs and drabs from her big day in her 'On The J Lo' newsletter. She's uploaded pictures of her stunning gowns and more recently, she revealed Ben's extraordinary reference in his reception speech.
But don't panic — it's not a reference from 'Gone Girl' or 'Batman V Superman'. The film Affleck referenced was one that he wrote, directed, and starred in called 'Live By Night' from which he borrowed the line "This is heaven. Right here. We're in it now".
Jennifer revealed in her newsletter that that line is one of her favourites that Ben has ever written and including it in his speech seemed very special for her, "He also said it the night of our wedding reception in his speech, and I thought...how perfect".
Lopez surprised her new husband by having Marc Cohn sing, as they had once fantasised about "in this very house more than twenty years ago". She continued "Ben told me that the chords of the song and seeing Marc Cohn both shocked him and allowed him to feel the way both roads we had walked found their way, inevitably, inexorably, and perfectly together".
"And when he saw me appear at the top of the stairs that moment it both made absolute sense while seeming still impossibly hard to believe, like the best dream, where all you want is never to awaken. I would have had many of the same thoughts probably had I not been focusing so hard on not tripping over my dress."
"But when I got close enough to see his face, it made the same wonderful sense to me. Some old wounds were healed that day and the weight of the past finally lifted off our shoulders. Full-circle — and not at all the way we planned it. Better."
She described the day as having truly felt like heaven after all the "labyrinths" and "surprises" of life had led them to that moment. Nawww. Isn't that lovely?
Have you seen her dresses?
