Ben Affleck is being pursued to direct a new version of classic Stephen King novel, The Stand, reports Deadline.com.

The book was previously turned into a miniseries in 1994, and is densely packed tale about a virus that wipes out the majority of humanity. Those that survive must battle with an evil, Lucifer type figure named Randall Flag. I barely remember the series, but I don't recall it being very good - it also seems like a strange property to resurface. Affleck is currently one of the most in demand directors in Hollywood, and is growing once again as a leading man with credibility. This type of story has been done before (The Road, every zombie movie...) so unless he finds something different within it (maybe the slightly biblical element?), I don't see the point.

Affleck just wrapped an untitled Terence Malick directed flick opposite Rachel McAdams, and is currently shooting his third film as director - political flick, Argo.
