It was a staple of many 1980s and 1990s childhoods, and now 'Beetlejuice' is getting a sequel, 26 years later.

'Beetlejuice 2' will be released next year and will see some of the same characters from the 1988 comedy-horror return.

Winona Ryder will reprise her role as Lydia Deetz, who in 'Beetlejuice' is a teenage girl who can see and communicate with the ghosts (Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis) living in the house that she and her family move into.

'Wednesday' star Jenna Ortega will play her daughter, while Justin Theroux will also star in an as-yet-unknown role. Willem Dafoe is also rumoured to have been cast in the film, which is believed to begin filming in London soon.

Most importantly, Michael Keaton will return as Beetlejuice - the crude "bio-exorcist" ghost who is hired by Baldwin and Davis to haunt Lydia's family out of their home.

Tim Burton will return to direct the sequel, which is set to be released in September 2024, and Danny Elfman is rumoured to be composing the score.

The reaction on Twitter has been mixed, with some excited by the prospect of a sequel, and some baffled by it...
