It's been revealed this week that 'The Batman' directer Matt Reeves is planning to make multiple spinoffs of the 2022 movie featuring villains from the Rogue's Gallery.
THR reported this week that filmmaker Reeves is quietly making his own expansion plans.
"The filmmaker is meeting with writers and directors to build out movies — yes movies, not just series — focused on Batman rogue’s gallery, both established and more obscure, with characters ranging from the Scarecrow to Clayface to Professor Pyg. All those projects are in the very early stages of gestation."
The Rogues Gallery is the term for the various villains that Batman has faced over the years. Famous villains included are the like of the Joker, Poison Ivy, Killer Croc and Two-Face.
Reeves is currently working on the sequel to the 2022 film starring Robert Pattinson. A spinoff series is also in the works starring Colin Farrell as the Penguin, one of the antagonists in 'The Batman'.
"I read the first episode," said Farrell last week. "Which is just so tasty and so unusual as the character was on the page and what Matt Reeves kind of envisioned when he was thinking of this iteration of the bang up of Oz."
The series officially got the green light in March. There's been little to no plot information released. However, we know it will delve into the Penguin’s rise to power in the Gotham criminal underworld.
Reeves and his company 6th and Idaho recently signed a multi-year, first-look deal with Warner Bros., cementing plans for an expanded universe over the next decade.
With no further details on upcoming movies, signs point to the fact they are still in early development stage. But it's clear to see that things are about to get quite busy in Gotham.
