This weekend the world of movies has been dominated by the release of 'Avengers: Endgame' and the positive reaction from critics and fans. Well, not all fans had a good weekend.
And it turns out the positive critical response has well and truly turned into cold, hard cash for Disney-Marvel.
According to Variety, 'Avengers: Endgame' pulled in $350 million in the US and an incredible $1.2 billion worldwide in its first weekend. This smashes the 'Avengers: Infinity War' take by over $500 million.
Needless to say the Disney-Marvel big wigs are well chuffed with the cheddar the movie is making.
“Kevin Feige and the Marvel Studios team have continued to challenge notions of what is possible at the movie theatre both in terms of storytelling and at the box office,” said Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn.
“Though Endgame is far from an end for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, these first 22 films constitute a sprawling achievement, and this weekend’s monumental success is a testament to the world they’ve envisioned, the talent involved, and their collective passion, matched by the irrepressible enthusiasm of fans around the world."
As 'Avengers: Endgame' was the culmination of 22 movies, questions are already being asked as to what is next. If it makes this kind of buck, you can sure be as hell it ain't going nowhere.
