After all, there are so many reasons to be anti Valentine's Day, not least because it's a Hallmark holiday. It makes singletons feel rubbish and who can forget the cringiness of getting that 'secret Valentine' from your folks? (Or was that just me..?)
These films will show you the darker side to relationships and fill you with horror rather than that warm gooey feeling. Here's to the holidays!
'Heathers'
Thirty years on, this 'Mean Girls' predecessor still packs a punch. The dark comedy stars Winona Ryder and Christian Slater as two teens who decide to murder their school's most popular students - the Heathers.
'Blue Valentine'
This gut-wrenchingly sad film features two stellar performances in Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams. Their characters fall in love, have a child together and get married. However the relationship turns increasingly toxic.
'Fatal Attraction'
In this archetypal erotic thriller, Michael Douglas plays a married man whose one night stand has dangerous consequences as the woman he slept with (played by Glenn Close) starts to stalk him and his family. The term 'bunny boiler' came about because of the film.

'Revolutionary Road'
'Revolutionary Road' reunites the stars of 'Titanic' but don't expect Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet to be as loved up this time around. Set in the mid-50s, the film follows a young couple living in a Connecticut suburb struggling to raise their two children and fighting personal demons.
'The Shining'
Surely no genre can be more anti Valentine's Day than horror? The seminal flick that is 'The Shining' tracks the strange and terrifying events that happen to the Torrance family during their stay at an isolated hotel.

'Closer'
Julia Roberts, Jude Law, Natalie Portman and Clive Owen star in the haunting film 'Closer'. It shows how the relationships of two couples become complicated and deceitful when the man from one couple meets the woman of the other.
'Gone Girl'
Based on Gillian Flynn's phenomenal novel, Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike are crucial in bringing the mystery to life. As is David Fincher's apt direction. After his wife Amy's (Pike) disappearance, Nick (Affleck) becomes the prime suspect.
'The Break-Up'
If there was ever a film to convince you that relationships aren't worth it for all the pain they eventually lead to, it's this Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn starrer, 'The Break-Up'.
'Marriage Story'
The latest entry on our list is Netflix movie 'Marriage Story', starring Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson as a couple going through a divorce. Some of the fights they have are painfully real if you've ever been in a long term relationship. Honestly it makes you wonder, why bother with all the hassle?
