The 2021 Oscars had a rather surreal finale last night as Anthony Hopkins won the Academy Award for Best Lead Actor.
Anthony Hopkins had previously won the BAFTA award for his performance in 'The Father'.
However, the win was still a surprise as the late Chadwick Boseman had been the favourite to win for 'Ma Rainey's Black Bottom'.
Hopkins was not present for the awards ceremony last night.
Today Anthony Hopkins took to Instagram from his homeland in Wales to thank the Academy, and pay tribute to Chadwick Boseman.
"At 83 years of age, I did not expect to get this award," he said. "I really didn't.
"I'm very grateful to the Academy, and thank you, and I want to pay tribute to Chadwick Boseman, who was taken from us far too early.
"And again, thank you all very much. I really did not expect this, so I feel very privileged and honoured. Thank you."
Anthony Hopkins previously won the Oscar for his performance as Hannibal Lecter in 'Silence of the Lambs'.
His victory last night makes him the oldest Best Actor Oscar winner to date.
