The Winehouse family signed a deal with Monumental Pictures recently, which will see the late actress portrayed on the big screen.

While no further details about the upcoming production have yet been announced, the movie is due to start filming in the new year with 'Kinky Boots' writer Geoff Deane and producer of 'Me Before You' Alison Owen to direct. The search is currently underway by both the production team and the family for the role of Amy Winehouse, who died at the age of 27.

According to NME, Amy's father Mitch Winehouse has said about the biopic, “It’s obviously something that we are going to do, 100 per cent. What we want is somebody to portray Amy in the way that she was… the funny, brilliant, charming and horrible person that she was. There’s no point really me making the film because I’m her dad. But to get the right people to do it, that’s very important, and we will."

Winehouse then went on to say which famous singer definitely would not be portraying his daughter, “It wouldn’t be Lady Gaga. She doesn’t speak our kind of English. I wouldn’t mind betting it would be an unknown, young, English — London, Cockney — actress who looks a bit like Amy".

The upcoming movie marks the second time that details about an Amy biopic have surfaced in recent years; Swedish actress Noomi Rapace was confirmed to play the singer back in 2015, with Irish director Kirsten Sheridan also attached, before production on the movie fizzled out. There is also the documentary 'Amy' which has received high praise since it's release also in 2015, which the Winehouse estate has famously distanced itself from

We'll have more news on the Amy biopic as soon as more details are confirmed - but let us know who you think could be a perfect casting as the role of the 'Back to Black' singer.
