Well this is disappointing…

While most people know about Alien: Covenant, the sequel to Prometheus which is a prequel to Alien, which is due out this year, there had also been talk of an Alien 5, which would act as a sequel to Aliens and thus rewrite the history of Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection (a bit like Terminator Genisys was meant to do with the Terminator franchise, but better), giving Ripley the ending she deserved.

Hopes were high that Alien 5 was going ahead, and even series star Sigourney Weaver said she’d be surprised if the sequel didn’t happen, adding that the script is ‘great’. Plus District 9 and Chappie director Neill Blomkamp, who was hoping to direct the new film, released unofficial concept art for the movie in 2015.

However, someone recently asked Blomkamp on Twitter about the odds of his Alien film happening. His reply was the following:

Not good.

At that, exec producer Ridley Scott has said they have ideas for a few sequels to follow Prometheus, so will the Alien franchise be kept on, just in another direction? And will Blomkamp be enlisted to helm one of the proposed sequels? Only time will tell…
