There is a subgenre of songs that immediately require you to sing at full volume, with lots of fist-clenching to give it more emphasis.
Songs by Kenny Loggins, the theme tune from 'Baywatch' and 'Home & Away', anything from Celine Dion in the '90s, and - of course - 'Pokemon' and the soaring, pop-rock anthem that it is 'Gotta Catch 'Em All'.
With the new trailer for 'Detective Pikachu' landing online yesterday evening, it really is a wonder that they haven't used the cracking theme tune in any of the promotional material for the movie. However, one enterprising soul on YouTube has gone out and done us all a friggin' service and cut this trailer together.
With a bit of little massaging of the trailer, the song fits perfectly over the trailer and just blends together so effortlessly. Really though, the movie itself has got to have the song in there somewhere.
You can't have a live-action Pokemon movie and not have it in there somewhere. That'd be like Zac Efron doing a movie without taking his shirt off, or Nicolas Cage doing a movie where he doesn't scream. People expect these things because it's the right thing to do.
Anyway, here's the trailer.
