The trailer for 'Wonka' recently landed and most people were impressed by the Paul King-directed origin story of one of Roald Dahl's most famous characters, Willy Wonka.

However, although many praised Timothee Chalamet in the lead role, not everyone was happy about the casting of Hugh Grant as the Oompa Loompas.

A British actor with dwarfism has claimed that the casting of Grant in the role has contributed to actors with dwarfism being "pushed out" of the film and TV industry.

George Coppen, who has had roles in 'Willow', 'Artemis Fowl' and 'The School for Good and Evil', told the BBC: "A lot of actors [with dwarfism] feel like we are being pushed out of the industry we love. A lot of people, myself included, argue that dwarfs should be offered everyday roles in dramas and soaps, but we aren’t getting offered those roles. One door is being closed but they have forgotten to open the next one."

He added: "They've enlarged his head so his head looks bigger. [I thought] what the hell have you done to him?"

In the 'Wonka' trailer, Grant appears in a scene with a young Willy Wonka, who says "So you’re the funny little man who’s been following me?"

In the 2005 remake of the original story - which starred Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka - the Oompa Loompas were all played by Deep Roy, who is 132cm tall. The average height of a person with dwarfism is 58cm, while Hugh Grant's Oompa Loompa is 20cm tall.

In the 1971 film with Gene Wilder, the Oompa Loompas were played by a variety of actors with dwarfism.

'Wonka' hits cinemas in December.
