There is new fodder surrounding a sequel to The Dark Knight, after the likes of Eddie Murphy, Emily Blunt and Angelina Jolie were all inexplicably linked with roles, despite the non-existence of a script. The film's producer Chuck Roven spoke directly to MTV at The People's Choice Awards, and had this to say about the possibility of a new Joker: "We have to separate the actors from the role. On a personal level, Heath was a friend of mine. We had worked together before The Dark Knight, but I still think that The Dark Knight is its own thing, and we have to separate them." It did leave the possibility open for the return of The Joker, but would Nolan really recast the role if/when he comes back to the franchise. As it is now, Chris Nolan can have any film he wants greenlit; he may not even return to the franchise until he's gotten another smaller production out of his system. MTV also says that Nolan and producer/co-writer David Goyer are currently "brainstorming ideas" for a sequel.
