In fact, one often wonders where he begins and Deadpool ends - or if it's all just some elaborate ruse to make him seem more likeable. At any rate, 'Once Upon A Deadpool' is the upcoming PG-13 cut of 'Deadpool 2' that sees the Merc With A Mouth kidnap Fred Savage from 'The Princess Bride' so he can tell him his story.
It sounds pretty crazy, but it might not have been such an original idea after all. As it turns out, a random guy - Michael Vincent Bramley - randomly tweeted Ryan Reynolds an idea for how to make a PG-13 cut of 'Deadpool 2' if he was so ordered by the bigwigs at Marvel.
That idea? See below.
Now, check the date on that. That's right. This tweet was made nearly a year ago. As Bramley told io9, he's not all that pushed about the thing.
As Bramley tells it, he first pitched the idea to his wife. "I told her I had the best PG work-around for Deadpool ever and explained the Fred Savage pitch. I gave the kidnapped Fred Savage spiel and, because she couldn’t remember it from a year ago, she assumed I was just describing the trailer."
"It quickly dawned on us that something was up and I started to freak out a bit, because I remembered tweeting it at Ryan Reynolds and I usually never check Twitter. I actually barely tweet at all. Usually I share these thoughts on Facebook, but I guess I thought that idea was a bit too perfect and they might actually use it," he explained.
In a recent interview with /Film, Paul Wernick explained where the genus of the idea originally came from - or, at least, the version he understood to be true. "After 'Deadpool 2' came out and we were all sitting around, we came to it less about the idea of let’s make a PG-13 movie and more, ‘Let’s talk a little bit about Deadpool,’" Wernick said. "We were kicking around some ideas and then I think it was Ryan [Reynolds] who had the great framing device and we all got excited and went to the studio."
Since then, Ryan Reynolds contacted Bramley and - by all accounts - it appears as if it were some magical coincidence. Here's what Bramley had to say.
'Once Upon A Deadpool' arrives in Irish cinemas for one night only on December 21st.
