While 'Mulan' was going to be the first major Hollywood release to hit cinemas, that's looking less likely now.

The live-action remake of 'Mulan' was set to be released on July 24th of this year. It would have been followed by Christopher Nolan's 'Tenet' a week later on July 31st.

However according to The Hollywood Reporter, its July release date is in jeopardy due to a surge in COVID-19 cases across the USA.

It is unconfirmed as to whether this will affect its Irish release. But even the release date of 'Tenet' seems to be up in the air now.

According to THR, both films need theatres in LA and New York to open since they're the biggest markets in the States. But the virus has hit both cities hard.

Moreover, with 'Mulan', there's the added matter of China, which has seen a resurgence of COVID-19 cases also.

'Mulan' was originally set to hit theatres in March before moving to July.

There are currently about a handful of features due to hit Irish cinemas next month (for the moment).

But there's also the matter of whether theatres will actually open their doors from next week or not, even with permission to do so from June 29th.
