"She literally said, 'I do not accept that kind of behaviour from you'."
The most recent episode of 'The Drew Barrymore Show' saw the actor-turned-TV-show-host give an incite into the Lucy Liu and Bill Murray drama which unfolded during the filming of 'Charlie's Angels'.
Earlier this year on the 'Asian Enough' podcast, Liu revealed she had clashed with Murray while filming the action movie. At the time, she said that the comedian began to "hurl insults" at her on set and "kept going on and on", which she she cited as "unjust" and "uncalled for".
She continued: "Some of the language was inexcusable and unacceptable, and I was not going to just sit there and take it. So, yes, I stood up for myself, and I don’t regret it."
Due to 'Charlie's Angels' now being available on Netflix in the States for the first time (only the recent rebooted version is available on Irish Netflix), Barrymore spoke openly about her time on the two-movie franchise.
When the conversation began to turn towards the Lucy Liu and Bill Murray news coverage, Barrymore said: "Lucy is out there right now talking about her instance with Bill Murray and I did this whole video and sent it to her to back her up and she was like 'Nah, I don't need it'."
Asked what the full story was by podcaster Danny Pellegrino, Barrymore let rip and helped "spill the tea". She continued: "What really happened was Bill was just — you know, comedians can be a little dark sometimes. He just came in in a bad mood.
"What you have to know is how much Lucy stood up for herself, and that was the great thing that came out of an unfortunate circumstance. She literally said, 'I do not accept that kind of behaviour from you'. We all supported her and backed her up, and we moved forward.
When further pushed if Bill Murray only concentrated on Lucy Liu or if it was to the whole set, Barrymore said: "There was a general [atmosphere], and then he zeroed in on her.
"In the workplace, it is so important that we respect each other. And if you don't feel like you are being respected, to speak up for yourself and to have people around you say, 'I back this person'.
"I respected her then, I respect her now. I'm proud of us as a team and a company that we didn't tiptoe on the eggshells. We dealt with it right then and there, we were strong and we moved forward, and we didn't accept anything less moving forward."

If there's ever a third 'Charlie's Angels', we just hope that Justin Theroux and his very OIRISH accent are not part of the reunion package.
