Can any of us really say we were expecting 'Aquaman' to do that well at the box office?

The DC superhero movie hit cinemas last December and made stupid amounts of money. It grossed over $1.1 billion worldwide, even surpassing Christopher Nolan's 'The Dark Knight Rises'.

Directed by James Wan, 'Aquaman' starred Jason Momoa in the titular role alongside Amber Heard and Patrick Wilson. Willem Dafoe,  Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Nicole Kidman co-starred.

'Aquaman' was such a hit that it's getting a sequel and a horror spin-off. The latter will follow the undersea monster of The Trench.

David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, who co-wrote the first 'Aquaman', is set to write 'Aquaman 2'. The screenwriter previously wrote 'The Conjuring 2' and 'The Conjuring 3' for Wan.  There's no word yet on whether Wan will direct the sequel.

As for the Trench horror movie, neither Momoa nor Wan are attached to star or direct, respectively. Only the writers - Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald - are lined so far.

In any case, if you were a fan of Arthur's Curry's first solo outing, you should enjoy this behind-the-scenes trivia.
