As we reported yesterday, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare will come bundled with a remastered version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

The iconic first-person shooter, which effectively launched the franchise into the popular consciousness, has been the subject of many campaigns by fans for a HD remastering. However, it's now been confirmed by Activision that - for the moment, anyway - you won't be able to buy Modern Warfare without purchasing Infinite Warfare's Legacy Edition, Legacy Pro Edition or Digital Deluxe Edition.

As well as this, the Modern Warfare remake only comes with ten maps from the original, which they're dubbing as "fan favourites", and the original campaign as well. As expected, Modern Warfare HD will only be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, but will also have dedicated servers for multiplayer instead of piggybacking on Infinite Warfare's servers.

The game will be developed by Raven, who worked on office favourite Jedi Academy, the Wolfenstein remake and the underrated Singularity. Since 2011, Raven has looked a lot of the additional work on Call of Duty games, including additional development for all three Black Ops games and was involved with the MMO Call of Duty Online.

So, thoughts? To be honest, this is completely expected. Activision are undoubtedly aware that people are more interested in the Modern Warfare remastering than they are with Infinite Warfare. Trying to separate the two was never going to happen, but it's entirely possible that once all the fuss and hype has died down, you might see Modern Warfare HD released on its own for online download only. If that's the case, there's going to be a lot of peeved players who shelled out the extra money for the Legacy editions.

In the meantime, here's a side-by-side comparison of the Remastered version and the original.
