If you read our piece on the best games for the Nintendo, you'll know that Legend of Zelda - with its brilliant golden cartridge - placed pretty highly on our list.

It's easy to see why. It pretty much revolutionised RPGs for consoles; it was the first RPG for a console, in fact, and it became a cultural phenomenon in the thirty years after it was released. It's an oft recited fact, but Robin Williams named his daughter, Zelda, after playing the game whilst his wife was pregnant.

But does the game still hold up after so many years? And how can you get a chance to play it now? Worry not, because two programmers have put together an in-browser game that takes the Legend of Zelda into the 3D world.

The game, which is hosted at Zelda30Tribute.com, plays very well on Chrome and Safari - the two browsers we used - and played OK on our busted-up iPhone 6 with the cracked screen (we dropped it outside the Workmans one night, it happens).

Zelda 30 Tribute even comes with the charming 8-bit soundtrack and the sound effects to go along with it. The game, of course, is still work a progress and it's made by two fans who love the game so there's bound to be a couple of bugs here and there. If you're looking to kill an hour and get all nostalgic, there's worse things you could do.
