My God: if I hadn't seen it, I would never have believed it. Twice this week, people asked me had I lost weight. It's years since I have gotten a positive comment on my weight that wasn't "Get Eamonn to sit on it!".

So a month in, and where am I at? Well, I didn't hit my target weight (although if I had, I think I would be off to Beijing), but I have certainly been transformed. Not physically - I'm not a butterfly now, or anything - but mentally. My attitude towards exercise, eating and the blasted Wii Fit is now all positive.

Look, this game is not going to make you thin - you can't gorge during the day and jump up and down on the board at night, and think everything will be alright. But listen to the advice it gives, push yourself to do the exercises and you will see a marked improvement.

The variety of games is astounding: yoga, muscle toning and fat burning are all here. I especially enjoyed the shadow boxing, which really works up a sweat. There are games like hula-hoop and volleys that are aimed at younger users, but to be honest, I didn't see much merit in them.

I have been proved wrong: I'd eat my hat if there weren't so many calories in it!
