One of the fundamental keys of any of the most critically acclaimed RPG's has always been a strong story that, with the help of it's lush visuals and enticing atmosphere, lure the gamer into a world so unlike the boring one the live in, they'll want to ditch this world in favor in the digitally created one they experience once they've picked up that controller. The Final Fantasy franchise, a case in point.
Unfortunately, White Knight Chronicles does not present such an enticing offer. Playing the role of Leonard, who at the start of the story is sent collect wine for a party and only upon his return discovers said party has fallen victim to some evil people called the Magi, Leonard immediately takes it upon himself to save the princess and in the process comes across a suit of amour with magical powers. And so it begins. Unfortunately, it's not long before you realize the control system itself can become tedious, boring, and at times unfair. Visuals don't fare much better, with bland landscapes constantly reminding you why you're not playing Final Fantasy instead.
On the plus side, there are multi-player quests that allow you and friends to team up, but these can't overcome the games obvious shortcomings.
