This week in gaming...

Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty & 1.6 Update

Cyberpunk 2077 revealed its first - and possibly only - DLC this week. The Phantom Liberty expansion is set to arrive in 2023, with Keanu Reeves reprising his role as the breathtaking Johnny Silverhand.

The DLC will bring in new characters and flesh out an unexplored part of Night City in a spy thriller story, but it won’t be making an appearance on last gen consoles.

This isn’t a major shock, considering the state the game launched in on PS4 and Xbox One.

The 1.6 update that released this week will be the last major patch coming to those last gen consoles, tying in with the recent Cyberpunk Edgerunners anime.

It also brings things like transmogging, cross progression, and some new side quests. Honestly since the 1.5 update, this is a really fun game.

It still has some ridiculous glitches, but is at least playable… Ish!

Assassin's Creed Mirage Leak

Details of the new Assassin’s Creed Mirage have leaked ahead of the series’ Showcase Event on the 10th September.

The new game in the series will take place in Baghdad in the year 860. You will play as Basim, a character who previously appeared in Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

There are hints and rumours that the series will be going back to its more stealthy roots, possibly abandoning some of the RPG elements that more recent entries in the series have brought in.

There has been a lot of criticism of Ubisoft’s open world bloat, so they could be attempting a return to form with this new game. We’ll have to wait until the showcase to see what they have up their sleeve.

Up their sleeve - you get it? You get it!

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Update

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet has another new trailer.

One new reveal is the Let’s Go! feature where you can send your Pokemon off in a given direction and it can find items and auto battle to grind some XP.

This could be a feature to ease the monotony of grinding, or it could be another feature that makes the game incredibly easy like the mandatory EXP Share has done in other games.

We also saw a bit more of the three main story quests: The Gym Challenge, the Path of Legends - an exploration mission, and Starfall Street - which sees you taking on the game’s troublemakers, Team Star.

The game looks like it’s shaping up to be a lot of fun, and could hopefully bring some new elements to Pokemon’s tried and tested main game formula.

Gotta catch em all… All one thousand and something of them.

That would make for a good Poké Rap.

Game Releases This Week

Some games released this week are Steelrising, a Soulslike game set in the French revolution - but with robots! Although the PC port is apparently having issues so keep an eye on that.

Temtem 1.0, the multiplayer Pokemon-like game, released after a long stint in early access. That's on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo Switch.
